How to use IBPindex ?
Analyze the routes you make very often, those you know best and compare the results with the routes you know less. That will make you a personal scale that will be useful for you to know the difficulty of other routes without having done them before.

Does IBPindex works ?
The response is in your hand. Analyze some routes you have done recently and compare the results with your expectations. Are they the same?

Why there are difference in  a same route?
A route recorded with different gps won’t give the same results because, obviously, the information in the gps won’t be the same and they won’t have crossed the same route. So, the mistake margins and their calibration won’t be the same neither.

When exporting the track from a format to another one, there are some variations that make little deviations in the result.

Why subjective factors aren’t taken account in the calculation?
Because subjective factors like climatology, physic state or the pace of the career are different in each route. That makes IBPs different in each repetition of the same route and it won’t be useful to compare. The state of the area is completely different. See the article in the page of description.

Which mistake margin have IBPindex?
The reliability of the result of IBP index will be as high as real is the information analyzed. If information comes from a track drawn manually, the possibility that there are mistakes is very high. (See –advice-)

Who can use IBPindex ?
Anybody can use IBP index, from a fan that has just started to a competition professional. In mountain bike or in road bike.

Why don’t coincide the accumulated meters with my information?

The total accumulated meters of raise and descent that IBPindex shows  is strictly the sum of the GPS records.   GPS receptors tend to accumulate some meters more of raise and descent due to sway.

The modernest receptors are, day after day , more precise and so they accumulate fewer mistake.

Some programs (including intern programs which manage the devices) make a correction of this mistake by eliminating the accumulated meters,  If some longitudinal meters ( 5m usually) are not crossed.  We think that this correction can also falsify the reality.  If we imagine a plane path with continuous unevenness of 0.5m ( a very usual fact in MTB) the correction will give us 0 accumulated meters although we have surely raised many of them.

In IBPindex we don’t make any correction, as we don’t know if information comes from a receptor with a big or little mistake, a wavy or a plane path..., we think that information given from the GPS will be more exact day after day.

What isn’t IBPindex?
IBP index won’t tell you how hard will be the next route or how much you suffered in the last route. If you want to know that, apply next formula:

Climatologic conditions (rain, mud,  etc..) +  physic state +  race pace +  IBP =  route hardness
